Whipping Boys

A society exists where the concept of a whipping boy has been taken to its furthest conclusion. To avoid pain of any kind the moneyed pay the lower class to experience it for them. Everything from jail time to maiming to unpleasant emotions are foisted off on the underclass with a considerable payment. The upper class merely feels sorrow and shame for having to pay for these services, a kind of loss of face in society.

What would a PC from there look like? If they were moneyed? If they were poor? How bound in this weird honor system are the poor?

Some may believe it's honorable to be paid to take these punishments - it's just the way that things work, and the way they are meant to work.
